 "Love it!" 2009-09-28
By A. Dew
This is our second Delonghi Panini Grill. Our sons finally got interested in making their own lunches with this grill, so I just love it! We gave the first one to our son when he moved to his own apartment. Our household is now down from 4 to 2 and we use the grill all the time. I found that we use it not only for paninis and burritos, but also for grilling fish, cooking bacon (nice, flat strips), steaks and all kinds of meats and veggies. The only problem we encountered was the "stop" in the hinge to hold the top in the upright position gave out on our first one, but certainly did not stop us from using it constantly. The second one seems to be working perfectly.

 "Great Panini Grill!" 2009-08-19

This was the first and only panini grill I have ever used. Compared to some I have looked at...this one is top-notch! I love the way it cooks and the sandwiches taste and look great. This grill cleans up so easily and that is a big plus!!! I am so glad I waited, looked and got this particular one on Amazon!

 "Generally a good buy" 2009-08-07
By Emerson (Michigan)
I haven't tried the grill for anything other than paninis. It seems well made, with the exception of the temperature dial that is a little flimsy. Also, even though I brush the bread with a thin coat of olive oil, the bread never seems to brown. The cookbook that comes with it is interesting and contains some good suggestions.

"You need one of these!" 2009-06-15
By Elizabeth (Arlington, VA United States)
I bought the DeLonghi CGH800-U Retro Panini Grill because my son was dying for a panini grill. He watches too much of the Food Channel and thinks we should have all the fine equipment they use on the shows. After some research, I decided it might be a good investment. The DeLonghi Panini Grill had high ratings and a great price. I'm so glad I purchased the grill. It has been a great treat to make sandwiches for the family. My younger son loves the sandwiches I make him for lunch at school, wrap in tin foil and they are still a bit warm when he eats them at school. I love how simple it is to use. I have even been able to use up hot dog and hamburger buns that I would usually throw out. I put a little olive oil on them and in a minute on the grill, they are a nice addition to our normal dinner. I can't wait to keep trying new recipes on the panini maker. I highly recommend this specific grill to everyone. It stores easily on its side.

 "Broke After 4 Usages" 2009-08-15

I bought this two years ago and have used it only four times in that period. Now, it no longer works. I'm not going to try to return it or get it repaired because it'll probably cost more than I paid for it. People tell me Cuisinart makes good stuff. Not if it breaks down like it did for me and for other reviewers.

"There is a clear problem with this unit" 2009-08-10
By Russell A Smith
This is the 2nd one I've owned, it works great, food tastes great, grills well etc.

But they have a very obvious design flaw because the unit constantly breaks, the temperature probe that plugs into the power and into the grill constantly breaks. I gave up on my original one and bought a new one, I just used it 2 days ago for the first time. I went to use it again tonight, and it's already dead! Now I have to call Cuisinart and go through the warranty process, it's so new the card I mailed in won't even be there yet.

If you do any googling of this product you will find the same problem over and over, why doesn't Cuisinart fix

this problem?

 "Great multi purpose grill" 2009-07-09
By Tammy McMichael (Westbrook, ME)
I work at a high end kitchen store and we do not sell this, we sell All Clad versions. I say versions because you have to choose EITHER grill or griddle - you do not get both in one appliance (in order to get both with the All Clad model, you would need to buy two seperate appliances @ $250 each.) Another huge plus on this machine is that the grill / griddle comes off for easy washing, whereas the aforementioned appliances do not come apart for easy cleaning. I have had this a few months and I love it!! I have nothing but postive things to say about this!

 "Using this every day" 2009-05-21
By Information Junkie (Texas)
We have a family of 7. We have had this for a few months and I use it every single day - it heats up quickly, cooks evenly and cleans up with minimal effort. If I had only one request, I would want it to be bigger.

We primarily make quesadillas and eggs, but we also frequently use the grill side to cook fajitas or chicken. Works fabulously for grilled cheese, too . . . it can handle 5 to 6 sandwiches at a time.

CHICKEN, PORK CHOPS, HAMBURGS all great - be careful to not overcook as it's easy to dry meats out. HOWEVER, I've had trouble adjusting the tilt lever. It won't stay in place & seems "locked" in the tilt mode. Also, after 5 uses the red light power indicator doesn't work so I'll send it back. Two strikes and your out!

I was turned off to the idea of buying a Foreman. In my head, I still thought they all worked like the original model. Boy was I wrong!

The best feature is the removable plates that allow cleanup in no time either by hand or in the dishwasher. You can also switch out different plates to make waffles, or use it as a griddle.

The preheat indicators are also helpful!

Cooking after a long day at work is a breeze thanks to this Foreman. I highly recommend!

 "Couldn't live without it!" 2009-09-02
By tabbymeow (North York, ON CANADA)
I bought the G5 grill about 3 or 4 years ago, intending to use it to cook meat dishes for my boyfriend (I've been a vegetarian for almost 20 yrs and am clueless about BBQ-ing or cooking meat). But I have found I use the grill for so much more than that. I used to just microwave my veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, etc which was ok but the texture is a bit bland and rubbery. On the G5, however, the texture is much more appetizing and is almost as fast as the microwave. I use it to grill vegetables, like peppers, tomatoes, asparagus, zucchini, onions, the list goes on. There are recipes I would never had tried as they called for grilled vegetables and I had no idea how to go about it. The G5 grill makes it so easy that you barely have to think about it...just watch the time to ensure nothing gets overdone. I sometimes set a timer and go about doing other things as the grill does its thing. Everything they say about it being easy to clean is also true. The removable plates are fabulous - I don't even have a dishwasher and it cleans up quickly just by handwashing. The waffle attachment is also fun. The griddle plate is perfect for making a full English breakfast as well: scrambled eggs, mushrooms, sausage all cook really quickly. I already have too much stuff on too little counterspace so an appliance that does more than 1 thing is fantastic in my book. I highly recommend this product.

I had the old grill, but hated the cleanup, so when we started dieting again, I really wanted one that had the removable plates. This works great and cleanup is super easy. I use this grill 3-4 times a week now. The only thing is, the extra plates are a bit of a pain to store, but hate to complain as I really wanted the extra plates as I wanted a waffle maker.

 "Totally Awesome" 2009-08-06
By MaxPSI (Seattle, WA)
I bought the refurbished model, and it has been fine. I visited all of the stores in my area to check out the models available, and even the high-end grills from companies like Calphalon were, in my opinion, kind of crappy at best.

I have a Breville juicer which is great, so I decided to take the plunge. I have to say, this machine is totally worth the extra money.

It's big. A monster, even. It's well made. I've been involved in the restaurant trade, and the quality is just a touch shy of professional. It has some very nice features, including a depth adjustment, tilt adjustment, and a nice long channel for catching drippings. You can open it flat and use it as a griddle.

Only a few nits:

The plates are not removable. Not that big a deal.

One of the plates is ridged, and the other is smooth. So you have to think about whether you want lines on both sides of your food and plan for that. Also, in flat griddle mode, you are realistically only going to use one half as a true griddle. Although it's so big that it's not such an issue, and you can certainly use the ridged side for meats.

It locks shut and stores upright, so you can store it away easily. There's even an ample spindle for the cord.

It draws 1800 watts, so you're not going to want to share a circuit with too many other appliances. It gets hot fast and stays hot, which is really essential if you actually want to cook anything other than grilled cheese sandwiches.

The most interesting thing: I've been baking 12" pizzas! Just set the depth so the top plate is as close as possible without touching, set the heat on high, and go. They come out perfectly. I generally use a pizza stone on the Big Green Egg, but this is a great alternative that doesn't involve lighting a fire.

"Great grill, tough to clean" 2009-07-22
By R. Penna (Virginia)
Puffy's review (from June 25, 2008) is spot on, given my experience. Have had the grill for a year, using it 5-6 times per month. It cooks burgers, steaks, salmon very well - the high temperature really works well. Chicken is a little more challenging - the "searing" effect that is so desirable in a good steak, is problematic with chicken - you have to poke a thicker piece, to see if it is really done inside. Cleaning, however, is difficult and time consuming - takes a lot of scrubbing, which must be done, but has to be done lightly so as to not wear off the "non stick" coating (sorry, but the residue really sticks despite the name). And it can't be done too near a sink or water sources, since it's a heavy and large electrical appliance. Overall, the greatness of the grill outweighs the serious inconvenience and dread of having to clean it, but barely. best advice - get the grill, and avoid cooking meats that generate too much fat runoff. For example, a lean salmon or a good steak, creates much less runoff.

This is a poorly made grill. My unit worked about 5 times before it stopped powering on altogether. Breville "customer service" is a joke. For the money, it is truly astounding how badly made this item is. Be aware that Breville has a minimal presence in the U.S. and hardly anyone in the U.S. will service a Breville product.

 "Works well (for awhile)" 2009-06-04
By Marcy J. Milligan (Falcon, Colorado United States)
Purchased this grill about a year ago. It worked well, however seemed to always be to hot. It cooked veges/burgers pretty well, but it is bulky, drips grease out the back, and the top leveling mechanism broke after a few months. Due to the overheating, the non-stick began to burn after about 6 months. In trying to contact Brevelle for a warranty replacement, well, get ready to WAIT.....I've still not been able to talk to a human being. I would not recommend this unit due to faulty manufacturing and poor customer service.

I bought this item online and after one weeks use the non stick coating is starting to come off the bottom grill.I contacted cuisinart dierctly and was told the warranty of three years is not good due to buying the product online instead of a dept.store and the serial# on the unit makes the warrantee valid or not valid.SO that tells me that they dont really fully back up thier products.Unless that it is from a dept.store like MACYS.I WILL NEVER BUY CUISINART PRODUCTS AGAIN DUE TO MY EXPERIENCE WITH CUISINART.

We've had this for about a year. It looks like metal but the housing is plastic. The cord holder broke off first. Now the knob that controls the griddle has broken off and the temperature can no longer be controlled. It really doesn't heat up all the way any more. The "grill" worked for panini but not very well for meat (burgers and such). Really not worth the money.

"Very unhappy with this grill" 2009-05-15
By Rachel Hessel (NYC USA)
I read reviews for practically ever grill on Amazon and after careful consideration I chose this grill. I was seriously disappointed and gave the grill away after 5 uses.

1) My biggest frustration was with the way it cooked. The burgers literally only browned on 1 side! Also they came out not very juicy or succulent even though I experimented with several different cooking times. I had a George Foreman grill in the past and burgers cooked on that grill came out much much better.

2) I found this really unwieldy to manage / clean. I knew the panels didn't come out but on a grill this large, that is a big problem.

I'm confused by all the great reviews. I had a George Foreman super basic model before and that was much better. I'm going to order that again.

This item looks great and cooks great. With fixed grill plates it isn't the easiest to clean and it is quite expensive when you realize that it has no fancy controls, timers, indicator lights, etc. You can probably get the same functionality for a lot less money if you don't care about industrial design.

 "Great!" 2006-03-04
By Susan (Pella, IA United States)
This contact grill-panini grill is great! We moved into a 3rd floor condo without a place for outside cooking but since we bought this grill I can't say we miss it. This grill heats up extremely well, something my several George Foreman grills didn't do. We like it for steaks and hamburgers, my husband says the ones I do are as good as he did on the grill. It is also very fast; we grill thin steaks in 2-3 minutes; it took 10 minutes on our gas grill. We also like it for grilled sandwiches like Reubens; the bread comes out crisp and the center is completely heated through. We like the temperature choices. It doesn't have removeable plates - nothing to break! They wash off easily; I put wet paper towels in it and let it sit while we eat. I would recommend it to anyone - look for it in the warehouse stores as well.

"Multiple grills in one and easy cleanup, mostly" 2008-07-18
By J. Hogle (Scandia, MN United States)
I bought this grill to replace a different brand that still worked but had worn-out grill plates. This model allows me to remove the grill plates for cleaning and I hope that means the surfaces will last longer. The plates are also replaceable so I don't have to dispose of the grill when the plates wear out (like the other brand). It is reasonably compact to use on my counter and the top grill portion is short enough that it doesn't hit the bottom of my cupboards when opening it (had that problem with the other brand).

Am pleased with the unit so far, although I will need to practice a bit with it to learn how best to set temperatures for things like pancakes or other items more sensitive to temperature choice than steaks and burgers. The manual gives a number of sample recipes and suggested settings, most of which have worked as expected. (Pancakes: still tweaking.)

The fold-open feature is especially nice when I need to cook steaks for four, or otherwise need a larger cooking area. I like having that option, even if it does take up a bit more space on the counter in this mode.

The only real negative I've found is that after grilling something like burgers in the closed position, the top grill plate will drip grease on the counter when the unit is opened. It isn't a big deal, but it can be more of a mess than one wants. I've dealt with it by placing a rectangular glass plate from an old microwave under the grill. Makes cleanup quicker.

I would not hesitate to recommend this grill. Has been a pleasure to use and seems well-made.
